let me down once. It has good tyres and battery. The paint is looking tired (or weathered or `has a nice patina` if you like) and the exhaust and silencers could do with being re-chromed. The wheels and chrome mudguards are in much better condition. It starts and rides well and has an electronic ignition by Piranha and all things work as they should. My reasons for selling are I am a bit long in the tooth (1938 model) and the joints don`t work aswell as they used to, hence I have bought a step-through scooter to keep me on the road. has the rear muguard and even the reflector & everything seems as it should, it`s a joy to ride. As you can see its not been restored as I still ride the bike, & was going to keep & restore at a later date, alas that wont happen now!!!!( missus want a conservatory). The bike has had an extensive rebuild costing over £900, although some time ago, its not many miles ago. I have 2 keys for the bike,The bike has 2 faults, 1. The chgain has snapped at some time taking part of the engine casing with it, the owner then found the said part and can easily be alloy welded back on, something I was going to do at a time of restoration and 2, one of the plastic side casing has a crack, as they all do, so nothing to major. V5 etc and MOT certif`s dating back to the 1980`s (I think). Tyres are all good, has the original exhausts etc,I`m having a clean out of bikes, I`ve also got a GSXR on too. The bike had been sat in his garage for approx 10 years with his intention of passing his test. I bought the bike as a non runner, removed the carbs had them cleaned and rebuilt new jets etc. New battery, fuel and started 2nd kick. fitted new tyres and MOT in January 2012. Bike runs and rides superbly. Just fitted new front wheel bearings and speedo drive advisory from MOT. Only other advisory is a sticking front near side caliper that will need attention. When I retired from racing the bike was due for a top end rebuild, I`ve purchased all the necessary parts but never got around to fitting them. it has only covered 158 miles from new! As you would expect, it looks fantastic, like a new bike. Just lift up the seat and everything underneath is pristine! It`s a real time warp. I bought this bike last year with every intention of putting it on the road this Spring & transporting myself back to my youth, but I`ve just got too many bikes & realistically it`s not going to get the use it deserves so it needs a good home. It runs but obviously needs a service having stood for so long. It also needs new tyres – the original ones still have the little rubber “bobbles” on, they are so un-used, but at some stage they`ve been allowed to go flat and consequently the side walls have cracked. It also needs a new battery - then it`s ready to enjoy for the Summer. I`ve always maintained bikes are for using not just for looking at, and that`s what this bike deserves. Sadly I won`t use it nearly enough so that pleasure will be for someone else. Imagine the enjoyment of riding a “new” thirty eight year old Yamaha RD250 on a hot Summers day, its engine still new and tight – wonderful! Not surprisingly, at this age, this very early RD250 is not quite entirely mint, but it`s not far off at all!
