ever since, the mudgaurds and various bits have been liberally sprayed with WD40 to prevent rust. The bike has great compression and would probably run without too much work but due to increased work commitments I just don`t seem to be able to find the time to spend on it. I bought the bike earlier this year with the thought to doing a mild restoration but I have realised it`s just not going to happen. The bike is in amazing condition for its age, very little rust anywhere, the mudgaurds are not rusted nor are the exhausts, the seat cover has a split in it and the paintwork is a little tired, The chain is missing as is the battery, the brakes require attention as the bike has been off the road for so long. In my opinion this bike doesn`t need much money spent on it to get it up together just a bit of time and effort. a bit of a mid lifer and bought this for posterity sake in 2009. It is a fantastic thing. Super reliable and great fun. I do very few miles though always ensure its serviced and used enough to keep everything in tip top condition. It starts first time everytime and has clearly been completley restored from the frame up. I cannot confirm with certainty the exact date and details of this though the accompanying history indicates this took place in 2003. I am having to sell for a combination of financial and storage reasons. I have just had a 30 year old GPZ550 part restored which can be seen in the background of one of the pictures. This cost more to do than I had originally expected and now finished I have decided sadly that one must go. I am aware that these things are quite sought after and some real dogs are around but please be assured this is a sound clean bike. Check out my 100% feedback over may years and bid with confidence. let me down once. It has good tyres and battery. The paint is looking tired (or weathered or `has a nice patina` if you like) and the exhaust and silencers could do with being re-chromed. The wheels and chrome mudguards are in much better condition. It starts and rides well and has an electronic ignition by Piranha and all things work as they should. My reasons for selling are I am a bit long in the tooth (1938 model) and the joints don`t work aswell as they used to, hence I have bought a step-through scooter to keep me on the road. As you can see its not been restored as I still ride the bike, & was going to keep & restore at a later date, alas that wont happen now!!!!( missus want a conservatory). The bike has had an extensive rebuild costing over £900, although some time ago, its not many miles ago. I have 2 keys for the bike,The bike has 2 faults, 1. The chgain has snapped at some time taking part of the engine casing with it, the owner then found the said part and can easily be alloy welded back on, something I was going to do at a time of restoration and 2, one of the plastic side casing has a crack, as they all do, so nothing to major. ENGINE NUMBERS 2 FORMER KEEPERS V5 PRESENT ONLY 12072 MILES FULL 12 MONTH MOT this is an un-restored bike in fantastic condition, it starts 1st kick and runs as sweet as a nut. as you will see from the pics it is a very nice presentable looking bike, it is mechanically sound and just passed its mot this week. one genuine yamaha key fits all locks (except steering lock), engine casings perfect with no chain damage, all numbers good and clear, original centre stand fitted, std exhausts, tank is clean inside, paintwork very good for its age, no dents or scratches. this is a very original example that has never been modified or messed about with, it is just like it would have been back in the 80`s. condition is as per pics (very nice for an unrestored 30 year old bike, not mint but certainly nice!) the paintwork is very good, all tins / mudguards etc 100% solid, no rot, chrome is very presentable for age but by no means perfect, exhaust chrome not that good at all. seat base solid, seat cover excellent, all original features such as std baffles, std air box & tool tray etc all in place. only not so bad bit is the electric start clicks but fails to turn the engine over (no big deal it starts 1st dab of the kick start) and the kill button is missing from top of r/h switch gear, no other known faults! his 80`s. He bought it new in 1977 from Motorcycle city in Hants, he only used it for one year clocking up 14000, it was then laid up in his garage where it stayed for the next 34 years untill he moved house at which point he decided that he would sell as he probably wasn`t going to use it again, this was when I purchased it from him. The bike is very original as you would expect, it has it`s tool kit, owner`s book, both keys ( one of which has never been used) the original V5 showing Motorcycle city as the owner with no previous owners, its runs perfect and sounds lovely, doesn`t smoke, no rattles etc, everything works, but will need a battery, the brakes are a bit sticky and the tyres have gone hard, seat is perfect, no tears, no rot on base, the paint work has gone home, and the chrome is a a bit speckled, but if you are looking for an XS750 to restore, I would say that this is the one as it has so little use from new, it would be a very straight forward resto whitch is why I bought it, but unfortunatley I am not going to have the time to do it. It has never been out in the wet, I am not sure if that is to protect the bike or to protect me, and I think the previous owners have adopted a similar outlook as there is hardly any tarnishing on any of the metalwork. The Tank is completely scratch free, as are the bar ends, there are a couple of light screatches on the rear grab handles, however I am sure these are from things that have rubbed agaisnt the bike when it has been in the garage rather than anything else. | the bike has been off the road until today, I had kept the battery on optimate charge through the winter, however the MOT man who tested it today said it was past it`s best, so £53.00 later we know have a brand new heavy duty battery, this was only fitted today! it has only covered 158 miles from new! As you would expect, it looks fantastic, like a new bike. Just lift up the seat and everything underneath is pristine! It`s a real time warp. I bought this bike last year with every intention of putting it on the road this Spring & transporting myself back to my youth, but I`ve just got too many bikes & realistically it`s not going to get the use it deserves so it needs a good home. It runs but obviously needs a service having stood for so long. It also needs new tyres – the original ones still have the little rubber “bobbles” on, they are so un-used, but at some stage they`ve been allowed to go flat and consequently the side walls have cracked. It also needs a new battery - then it`s ready to enjoy for the Summer. I`ve always maintained bikes are for using not just for looking at, and that`s what this bike deserves. Sadly I won`t use it nearly enough so that pleasure will be for someone else. Imagine the enjoyment of riding a “new” thirty eight year old Yamaha RD250 on a hot Summers day, its engine still new and tight – wonderful! Not surprisingly, at this age, this very early RD250 is not quite entirely mint, but it`s not far off at all! | This is a UK registered bike and has been from new, new type V5 in my name | Bike is currently on Sorn and has no MOT or Tax but would pass with no problems at all. | Engine has had a full rebuild last August with New YPVS crank (Better and stronger than LC type), new pistons and rings with a rebore to 0.5 oversize (standard Porting), all new gearbox bearings and genuine Yamaha Oil Seals throughout, new clutch plates, also genuine and Genuine Yamaha Headgasket. The Carbs are very low miles 31K powervalve type. The stator was a NOS item a year ago and it runs with a lightened flywheel rotor. Pipes are Genuine Old type large can Allspeeds with no dents. as it is. The bike starts, runs and rides, It back fires because i put a set of carbs on it but they need setting up. Its got Harley levers on it which cost me £300.( Switches in levers are missing). All lights work, Brakes are great, starts Every time, as i said. carbs need adjusting, bike looks really good and turns heads, paint work is sound but the front mud guard could do with re-painting I`ve run out of money and its just sitting doing nothing.might aswell let someone enjoy it.
