it started life in yellow paint but to me the only colour for the 250 is red and white so thats the colour i put it in on the log book it states yellow but the colour can be changed when the log book is sent off i had it mot`d a couple of months ago but have only just picked it up thats why its for sale now. and this is the rare 1978 model. When released it was very well respected and had many great evolutions from the 1977. "Yamaha was in the thick of motocross every year after the introduction of the YZ models, but the company truly arrived in 1978. All of the `78 YZs were strong and versatile performers. The large single shock under the fuel tank was still an advantage the other brands couldn`t match. In `78, Yamaha finally got the weight of the complex system under control with an all-new 250 engine and aluminum swingarms. Yamaha riders Broc Glover, Bob Hannah and Rick Burgett won all three outdoor titles on their works bikes, but Hannah won the supercross crown, often aboard totally stock production YZs." As you can see in the pictures the bike is not as good as it could be looks wise but reflects the price. This can be solved with a good set of matching plastics and some paint here and there. The white plastics are Acerbis. The tank I had to buy and could only find a 1978 tank in yellow so looks a bit odd but was going to get yellow plastics to match. White tank included in the sale but it does have a crack, (about 1 1/2 inches, hence the new Yellow tank). European colours were apparently white and USA yellow. not used it much. I put a new Michalin Trials Competion Tyre on the back last year and have used it for 2 hours since! (cost me about £80 I think). The bike starts very well and has a crisp note to the engine. The gear box and clutch are spot on. I put new fork seals in a few years ago along with piston rings, gudgin pin and little end bearing. These TY monos are now getting collectable. Disc and Sprocket lock Tabs, Seat cover,New Battery Parts which have been re-chromed-Exhausts, Downpipes, Kickstart, Rear brake pedal, Gear lever Chrome Centre stand has recently been replaced & a freshly black powder coated one has been fitted Braided hoses front and rear The paintwork has been recently re-done with new decals (not done by us though!)
